World Kabaddi Cup 2011 – India to take on Canada in finals


Ludhiana, Nov 19 : India has made a tremendous entry into the finals of the 2nd World Kabaddi Cup by defeating the Italian team 74-15 in their semi-finals at Bathinda in Punjab on Friday evening. It would meet Canada which sent Pakistan by a margin of 44-39. India reached the final of the 20-day tournament easily. The final match of the second World Kabaddi Cup is played at Ludhiana on Sunday. The Pakistani side, which was the runner-up in the first edition of the tournament last year, was expected to reach the final this time also but the Canadian side, which also comprised Punjabi-origin youth settled in the country, got the better of them.
The aggressive Canadian side kept up the pressure on the Pakistani side all through the game with both teams locked in a neck and neck fight. At half time, both teams were at 20-20 points. The Canadian side finally won 44-39 in a closely fought match. In the women’s section, Indian eves crushed USA by 57 to 7 in the semi-finals. Both teams will clash again tomorrow for the title. In the last league match of Women’s section, the Indian eves overcoming the trauma of Friday’s unfortunate bus accident, crushed USA by a big margin of 57-07 to clash again in the finals.Today is the rest day to prepare for the finals at Ludhiana, tomorrow evening. Both Men’s and Women’s finals will be played at Ludhiana tomorrow. The final match of the men’s kabaddi, in which the winners’ team takes home the prize money of Rs.2 crore and the runner-up takes Rs.1 crore, will be played at industrial city Ludhiana’s Guru Nanak Dev stadium on Sunday evening.
