EDMONTON - A hit-and-run collision Saturday left two people dead in northeastern Alberta.
A 32-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were killed in the crash, which happened at about 1:14 a.m. on Highway 55 west of Cold Lake, Cold Lake RCMP Sgt. Brent Sawatzky said.
The pair, whom police say were boyfriend and girlfriend, had been outside their vehicle after stopping at the side of the road due to an unrelated collision. An off-duty EMS worker who came across the scene was giving help when the fatal crash occurred.
The EMS worker wasn’t hurt.
The driver operating the vehicle that hit the couple fled the scene.
The suspect later turned himself in to Cold Lake RCMP on Saturday evening.
Police have not released the identities of the two people killed and continue to investigate the collision.
