Demolition has begun for the long standing Bank of Montreal building on Jasper Avenue.
Demolition has begun for the long standing Bank of Montreal building on Jasper Avenue.
Crews have begun tearing down a long-standing building in downtown Edmonton.
The Bank of Montreal on Jasper Avenue and 101 Street will be torn down to make way for a parkade.
Despite an effort by community members to save the 49-year-old structure, city council voted in favour of the demolition last summer.
The bank building had been empty for more than a dozen years.
Developers said it would not be worth the cost involved to repair the building.
The new parkade will include a two storey structure with retail space.
