Final work on two major multi-year road projects is nearing completion, just in time for the long weekend traffic rush.
Work on a 66 Street connector between Anthony Henday Drive and 195 Avenue has been completed and will be open as of 5pm Friday June 28, 2013. This was the final piece of a two-year project to realign and reconstruct 66 Street between 167 Avenue and 195 Avenue.
Final work on 17 Street was completed as part of the new interchange at Whitemud Drive and 17 Street. 2013 work on the two-year project included improvements to 17 Street between 37A Avenue to north of Whitemud Drive. This interchange provides uninterrupted travel on Whitemud Drive between the east and west portions of Anthony Henday Drive.
Minor work will continue in both locations; however this will be done in off-peak hours to minimize disruption to drivers.
Interchanges are part of an ongoing City effort to better accommodate traffic volumes and reduce traffic delays along major arterial routes. The City of Edmonton thanks drivers for their patience over the past two construction seasons as work was completed.
