Demolition has begun for the long standing Bank of Montreal building on Jasper Avenue. Crews have begun tearing down a long-standing building in downtown Edmonton. The Bank of Montreal on Jasper Avenue and 101 Street will be torn down to make way for a parkade. Despite an effort by community members to save the 49-year-old structure, city council voted in favour of the demolition last summer. The bank building had been empty for more than a dozen years. Developers said it would not be worth the cost involved to repair the building. The new parkade will include a two storey structure with retail space. |
