Surrey security guard badly hurt chasing alleged dollar-store shoplifter

METRO VANCOUVER - Police in Surrey say they are searching for help from a Good Samaritan after a Whalley security guard suffered a serious head injury Saturday evening while chasing an alleged dollar-store shoplifter.
The witness reportedly tipped the security guard at the Whalley Dollar Giant store (105A Avenue and King George Boulevard) off to the woman shoplifter around 6 p.m. Saturday. The woman fled the store chased by the security guard.
Police arrived to find the security guard close to the store at the bottom of a stairwell with a serious head injury. The shoplifter and Good Samaritan were gone. The guard is now in hospital in serious condition.
Police are asking the witness, or anyone else who saw something that day, to contact Surrey RCMP's general investigation section at 604-599-0502.
