Edmonton bus passenger, 87, dies after collision

Police are investigating the crash between an Edmonton Transit bus with car
EDMONTON -- An 87-year-old female bus passenger died Saturday after suffering a possible cardiac arrest in a crash, police say.
The Edmonton transit bus was driving east on Terrace Road at 1:37 p.m., near 57th Street, when it collided with a Chevrolet Impala crossing the road, police said in a news release.
“There was an elderly lady on the bus who either was standing or fell to the floor out of the seat and received an injury,” said Sgt. Gary Lamont of the major collision investigation unit. “At the same time, it appears she went into cardiac arrest.”
The woman died in hospital Saturday evening.
The crash happened in the Terrace Heights neighbourhood as the Impala attempted to enter the Capilano Mall Safeway parking lot, police said.
Police are trying to determine if the collision caused the woman to go into cardiac arrest, Lamont said.
A 71-year-old bus passenger was also taken to hospital, where she was treated and released. The bus driver and a 78-year-old woman driving the Impala were not hurt, police said.
A second female passenger on the bus, who was 71-years-old, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She was taken to hospital, but later released.
The driver of the car was not injured in the collision, neither was the bus driver.
Officers are still investigating. No charges have been laid at this time.
